The Democratic candidate discusses her campaign strategy while her Republican opponent has not yet responded to interview requests.

Jocelyn Benson, the Democratic candidate for Michigan governor, appeared on the Michigan Public radio program Stateside on Monday, October 26, to discuss the upcoming election. She spoke to producers about the current state of the race and her policy priorities ahead of voting day.
The Democratic candidate’s appearance came while the Republican side of the race maintained a low public profile. John James, the Republican candidate for governor, did not participate in the broadcast. Producers from the show made several attempts to contact his campaign office to arrange an interview, but they have not received a response to date.
The campaign team for James has left the door open for a conversation later in the week. The radio team stated they are prepared to schedule a sit-down session if the Republican candidate agrees to sit for an interview. This lack of immediate engagement contrasts with the visible activity from the Democratic side during the final stretch of the campaign.
The broadcast also featured discussions on local food culture and political analysis. Anna Ansari, author of Silk Roads: A Flavor Odyssey with Recipes from Baku to Beijing, joined the show to talk about her culinary work. She will collaborate with Molly Mitchell, the founder of the Detroit diner Rose’s, for a special dining event this week.
Rose’s recently earned recognition from The New York Times, which listed it as one of 50 favorite restaurants in the United States. The segment highlighted the partnership between the two chefs as they prepare their menu. The show concluded with a segment from the On Hand series, which explores the complexities of Michigan’s voting patterns.
David Dulio, a political science professor at Oakland University, provided analysis on why the state’s electoral outcome is difficult to forecast. He discussed the factors that contribute to Michigan’s swing identity in national politics. His comments offered context on the unpredictability that voters and candidates face in the current election cycle.
