Jay-Z Named Headliner for Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show in 2027

The rap icon, who already curates the halftime show through Roc Nation, will take the stage himself at SoFi Stadium on Feb. 14.

Jay-Z will headline the 2027 Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show, the NFL and its partners announced. The rapper succeeds Bad Bunny, the Grammy-winning artist whose Emmy-winning set highlighted Super Bowl LX earlier this year.

The news came during halftime of the Cowboys vs. Eagles Monday Night Football game. ABC commentator Scott Van Pelt told viewers it would be Jay-Z at SoFi on Valentine's Day, adding that everyone would be looking forward to it. Analyst Jason Kelce called him "the GOAT" and said he has more stadium-ready hits than most artists have songs. Puck was first to report the news.

In a statement, Jay-Z reflected on his path from Reasonable Doubt to the halftime stage. "Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage," he said. "This run continues to be a dream come true."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league has worked closely with Jay-Z and Roc Nation for several years. When the NFL first agreed with Roc Nation to produce the show, Goodell said, he had one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him.

Oliver Schusser, Apple's vp of music and international content, said Jay-Z's impact on global music culture is "as profound as it is undeniable." ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro noted that the rapper has won 25 Grammy Awards. The performance will be shown in the U.S. and internationally across ESPN, ABC and Disney+.

Jay-Z joins a long list of halftime headliners that includes his wife Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Bruce Springsteen, Diana Ross, Katy Perry, The Weeknd, Usher, The Rolling Stones and Bruno Mars. The billionaire rapper has curated the show through Roc Nation under an NFL deal that began in 2019 and was renewed in 2024.

Super Bowl LXI will air on ABC and ESPN. The game is set for Sunday, Feb. 14, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, home of the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Bad Bunny's February show turned Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, into a large dance party. Over 13 minutes, the Puerto Rican rapper and singer performed hits including "Tití Me Preguntó," "Eoo," "El Apagón" and "DtMF." The set told a love story, featured several celebrity cameos, and closed with a message on stadium screens: "The only thing more powerful than hate is love."

The NFL and Jay-Z's partnership began in 2019, with Roc Nation consulting on the league's entertainment offerings and working on community and social initiatives, including the NFL's Inspire Change program. The arrangement followed the league's controversial treatment of former San Francisco 49ers player Colin Kaepernick, whom Jay-Z initially backed publicly before the two fell out. In September 2026, Kaepernick told NBC News that Jay-Z had built an alignment with "the same NFL that has blackballed me."
